DESCRIPTION:ADOLESCENT PARENT DAY INVITATION \nThursday\, October 26\, 2023 \n9:15am to 2:30pm  \nNorwood Hotel \n112 Marion Street \n  \n  \nPlease join us for APIN’s Annual Adolescent Parent Day (APD) \n  \nThis year at APD\, APIN is pleased to present the following: \n  \nJean MacKinnon presenting Keys to Attachment \n“Want to have a better relationship with your child?  Want to see your child succeed in the world?   In this presentation you will learn about simple keys to being closer to your child.  You will learn about how certain responses to your child can result in better behaviour and feeling more secure.    And since attachment is about knowing you have someone you can turn to\, we will talk about your own history of attachment relationships and how they impact you to this day. \nJean MacKinnon is a family counsellor in Winnipeg who has worked with children and their parents for over 30 years.  Jean specializes in working with families who have experienced trauma\, abuse and attachment disruptions.  Jean has been offering trainings in attachment for over 15 years and incorporates attachment principles and approaches in all of her work.” \n  \nAND \n  \nAj’a sharing The Four Medicines Teaching and Drumming \n“Aniin\, Boozhoo\, Tansi. Makade Makwa dizinikaz migizi dodem. My spirit Name is black bear the name I was given when I came to this physical world is Aj’a. I am Anishinaabe from Pinaymootang First Nation and Red River Métis from St. Adolph. I am a mother\, aunty\, sister\, helper and cultural and ceremony worker/coordinator. Some of the teachings I carry in my bundle include drum teachings\, four direction teachings\, cedar bath ceremony\, pipe ceremony\, traditional medicine teachings\, drum teachings\, sacred fire teachings\, and sacred bundle teachings. Some traditional groups I facilitate are drum circles\, medicine bag teachings\, dream catchers and beading. \nI became a mom at a young age. When I realized I was pregnant at the age of seventeen\, I decided to live at Villa Rosa with the hopes of learning some skills that will help me on my journey of motherhood. I lived at Villa Rosa in the main building and when I had my daughter\, I moved on to the independent living apartment (next door). During the time I spent living at Villa Rosa I felt loved and cared for. My experience was wonderful and I am grateful for the opportunity to start my motherhood journey there. I’ve experienced motherhood at a young age now\, I feel like I am back where I’m meant to be\, walking with moms on their motherhood journey. One thing I did not have when I was a new mom was connection to culture and identity. Now that I walk with ceremony in my life\, I feel it’s my responsibility to share what I know to those who want to learn. While at Villa Rosa I will be sharing knowledge about cultural teachings and traditions. I am grateful for this opportunity. \nI am passionate about learning and sharing traditional teachings and walking alongside people on their healing journey as they seek mino bimatiziwin\, the good life. I am grateful for each day I am given to walk in this physical world. I am forever grateful for our ancestors who have kept our ceremonies alive so that we can have healing. Meegwetch/Ekosi.” \n  \n  \nThe day starts at 9:15am with a light breakfast. Jean will present at 9:45am until 10:45. Following Jean’s presentation\, Mia Elfenbaum will speak briefly about MyBaby Parenting Resource.  Aj’a will present from 11:00 to 12:00. Lunch will be served at 12:00pm. Please bring formula or lunch for your children as this will not be provided.  At 1:00pm\, there will be 4 breakout sessions – Thai Chi\, Library Services\, a photobooth and an All levels (prenatal-friendly) workout. Participants will rotate between the 4 sessions. \n  \nParticipants staying until the end of the day will receive a gift bag\, filled with goodies. \nThis year’s Adolescent Parent Day will have a Hallowe’en theme.  Participants whose child is dressed in costume will be entered in a draw to win a prize! \n  \nPre-registration is mandatory as space is limited. We hope to accommodate everyone’s requests.   \n  \nSERVICE PROVIDERS: \n  \nTo register (participants and service providers) please email Pamela at \napin@apin.org.
