DESCRIPTION:You Are Invited To \nan APIN Virtual Presentation \n“Empowering Young Parents Series” \nFourth Circle: \nMending Families Building Resilience \nLOCATION:  Online – Go to Meeting \nPlease join my meeting from your computer\, tablet or smartphone.\nhttps://meet.goto.com/215480925\nGet the app now and be ready when your first meeting starts:\nhttps://meet.goto.com/install \nPRESENTATION:  Families Mending Building Resilience – In 1994 the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP) created the Aboriginal Healing Foundation which has since provided the basis for much of the community healing tools we find available for today’s generation. We will explore the role Colonial institutions like Residential School and Canadian child welfare policies have had upon our families and how communities have coped with the ongoing challenges of mainstream society. Young families are supported and have many opportunities for healthy choices as Reconciliation activities can be seen blossoming through agencies like Manitoba’s First Nations Family Advocate Office. This session will provide hands on tools and activities that young parents can make use to bolster their parenting. \nSPEAKER:  Ko’ona Saber is member of the Bizhiw doodem (Lynx Clan) from Peguis First Nation\, where her father Walter George Cochrane was integral in the reclamation of indigenous cultural practices prior to her birth in 1970. She has much personal and professional experience in advocating and assisting families who have children with additional support needs. Ko’ona has extensive experience in helping to strengthen and support indigenous families through work in health promotion\, indigenous issues\, community development in addition to providing cultural programs and supportive services. She has been sharing her traditional teachings for over thirty years\, primarily through teaching using her Anishinabe hand drum and medicine bundle. Ko’ona is married to Ivon Saber a landowner at Ayers Cove on east Lake Winnipeg\, 5 minutes south of Wanipigow First Nation\, they spend their winter months in the Kootenays of British Columbia. \nEmpowering Young Parents Series: \nFirst Circle: Introductions and overview of series \nSecond Circle: Indigenous Perspectives on Bonding and Attachment \nThird Circle: Understanding Lateral Violence \nFourth Circle: Families Mending Building Resilience \nFifth Circle: Certificates and Setting Goals \n“Many of us were brought up by dysfunctional parents who hated themselves\, who were taught to hate themselves so they (often unknowingly) pass it on to others around them. Finding yourself on the receiving end? See it as a gift for you to seek strength and supports to help keep it out. Lateral violence is an energy. You decide to let it in\, things can’t come into you without your consent” ~ Tasha Beeds \nTo register\, please go to: \n  \nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/apin-virtual-presentation-tickets-623398320157 \n  \nAPIN provides the opportunity for information to be shared\, however may not endorse or promote the materials or views conveyed.
