The Mothering Project (also known as Manito Ikwe Kagiikwe or MIK for short) means Spirit Woman Teachings. The Elder that gifted The Mothering Project with this name, told us that women carry all the teachings they need within them. Our role is to walk with women and gently remind them of what they already know.
The Mothering Project runs out of Mount Carmel Clinic and is a free program for women who are pregnant or have had a baby in the last year AND are actively using or struggling with drugs or alcohol. The Mothering Project program offers a safe and welcoming space for mothers and their children to access good nutrition, resources and support, primary care, midwifery, culture and ceremony, parenting programming and a strong sense of community.
The Mothering Project is trauma informed, culturally grounded, and harm reduction oriented. We meet women where they are at and walk with them as they work towards their goals.
